Cindy was on the worship music team with me and reminded me of some old scripture choruses of mine that we sang in those days. One was “He Longs To Be Gracious To You" (Isaiah 30:18). I had almost forgotten about them but she has a fond remembrance of them. In her honor and with a hope to encourage both of them as they begin this journey through cancer treatments, I wanted to blow the dust off of it and create a newer version of it with another one -- Psalm 9:10 -- to follow later. You can listen here. Prayers and best wishes, Cindy and Steve.
Along with many others, I received a prayer request on Facebook recently from Cindy Baney regarding her husband, Steve -- (both old Bloomington friends) -- who was recently diagnosed with colo-rectal cancer and has just begun treatments. Cindy and Steve were college students when I met them and was involved in a church-planting ministry there at Indiana University. They subsequently married and have been teaching in the Indianapolis area for many years. John, thank you so much for posting this! (and on the very day my computer got its sound back!) You have no idea how much those old scripture songs mean to us, and how much we miss them. (well, maybe you do!) Through the years, one or another of them will pop into my head and I know it is the Lord's encouragement. Many scriptures are planted in my heart beacause of these songs. Even my children who were so young rmember many of them. Not only did this touch my heart with precious memories, it was a very timely reminder of God's unfailing love.

John, God Bless you for this beautiful gift. I wept as I listened to the truth in it and the love that always poured through your voice. For a moment I thought I was back in Ballantine Hall back in that formative 1981-82 freshman year and you were spinnin'transparencies on the bulky overhead projector to warm up our hearts "in the Spirit." I truly view this cancer diagnosis as a gift from God. I am seeing things I would have never seen otherwise. His peace has ruled throughout my entire being from the first words of this diagnosis back on January 13th. God has re-invaded my life over the last 19 months and this is just another phase of the journey on this side of eternity. Praise Him all who have breath......for He is the Deliverer and Healer....a very present help in trouble.
