The Worn Pages

Daddy never told his troubles
He sure had his share
The mill closed down in our timber town
And fear was in the air
The worry in his eyes
Gave away what he was facin’
So he’d open his Good Book up to
The worn pages
Chorus:
The spine was broken and
The cover torn
He read it late at night
And again in the early mornin’
Stained with fingertips and coffee
He used that book for ages
He prayed for help then he turned to
The worn pages
With the turns his life had taken
He read again and again
The parts about how to love his wife
How to be a father and friend
When we lost mama unexpected
And us two boys needed raisin’
He walked familiar ground in
The worn pages
Bridge:
In time he passed with grace
And us boys went to sell the place
That book his life reflected
Was open right where he left it
(Chorus)
