Rubbin' Off On Me (Re-Write)
Copyright © 2011 John Rowland
v1:
I take off my work boots on the porch
So I won’t track mud across floor
That’s you... rubbin’ off on me
Pick up my socks and underwear
‘Stead of leavin’ ‘em layin’ everywhere
That’s you... rubbin’ off on me
I make myself some shopping lists
So I won’t be makin’ so many trips
That’s you... rubbin’ off on me
Chorus:
Seems as though you and I
The more we go along in life
Get ourselves all tangled up together
It’s never come to push and shove
Cause bein’ like the one I love
Always makes me turn out for the better
That’s you... rubbin’ off on me
v2:
Started findin’ better things to do
Than just kick back to have a few
That’s you... rubbin off on me
Try to keep my cool and just shut up
When I’d like to kick somebody’s butt
That’s you... rubbin’ off on me
Been askin’ things in Jesus’ name
And givin’ thanks when the answers came
That’s you... rubbin’ off on me
Chorus:
Bridge:
If I knew back when, what I know today
I wouldn’t have it any other way

The Worn Pages
©2010 John Rowland
Daddy never told his troubles
He sure had his share
The mill closed down in our timber town
And fear was in the air
The worry in his eyes
Gave away what he was facin’
So he’d open his Good Book up to
The worn pages
Chorus:
The spine was broken and
The cover torn
He read it late at night
And again in the early mornin’
Stained with fingertips and coffee
He used that book for ages
He prayed for help then he turned to
The worn pages
With the turns his life had taken
He read again and again
The parts about how to love his wife
How to be a father and friend
When we lost mama unexpected
And us two boys needed raisin’
He walked familiar ground in
The worn pages
Bridge:
In time he passed with grace
And us boys went to sell the place
That book his life reflected
Was open right where he left it
(Chorus)

(When I Make You Happy) I'm Happy With Me
©2010 John Rowland
Plantin’ you roses
Doin’ the chores
Fixin’ that squeaky’
Ol’ cabinet door
When I’m satisfyin’
It’s easy to tell
And I like the feelin’
When I’m doin’ it well
(Chorus)
When I make you happy
I’m happy with me
Doin’ you good
Seein’ you smile
Takin’ love that extra mile
When I make you happy
I’m happy with me
I got my own ways
Of lovin’ you
Dinner dates
And honey do’s
I feel good doin’
Your favorite things
It’s part of wearin'
This weddin’ ring
(Chorus)

It's In The Cards
© 2010 John Rowland
Sittin' in the shed
On a lazy afternoon
He sees all his half-done projects
Starin' back at him
He opens up a drawer
Looks behind his box of tools
Pulls out a stack of greeting cards
And leans back on the stool
(Chorus)
It's in the cards
Safe in his special place
The years they had together
Marked by treasured days
He's not used to life without her
Sometimes it's kinda hard
When he needs to hear her voice
It's in the cards
Christmas '84
Don't worry bout a tree
A few cards down, it's Father's Day
She loves her papa-to-be
The Valentines... pick any year
Hugs and kisses, love you so
These words he ached to hear
Things she wanted him to know
(Chorus)
(Bridge)
Sometimes it's tough
To trust the dealer's hands
The cards are dealt
To work out in the end
The last one at the bottom
Before God took her home
Written with a shaky hand
Said "sorry to leave you alone"
Her love was always honest
Didn't hide a single thing
Her life was taken way too soon
But her whispers speak to him
(Chorus)

Tonight and Forever
© 2010 John Rowland
In Bethlehem a baby cries
Shepherds raise their fearful eyes
Angels in glory shining down
Tell where the baby can be found
Wealthy sages from afar
Guided by a special star
Trav'ling over dusty roads
Search for what the prophets wrote
Chorus:
Tonight
Let all creation sing
Tonight
We welcome heaven's King
Immanuel our healer and forgiver
Tonight and forever
Gathered at that cattle stall
The Mighty One but weak and small
Shepherds worship, wise men bow
Imagine heaven coming down
(Chorus)
Bridge:
From ancient days
The prophets spoke
Of a King who has no end
Heaven's Lord has come to men
So that we can start again
(Chorus)

Carefree
I remember when we were young
Summer days were so much fun
Swimmin' pools and sandlot baseball games
Not a thought about bein' small
Loved the wonder of it all
Never stopped to worry 'bout a thing
We were
Carefree
Carefree
Chasin' butterflies in the wind
Kick the can with all our friends
Ridin' our bikes around the neighborhood
My mom and dad just had to laugh
When we gave the dog a bath
You always turned the hose and sprayed me good
We were
Carefree
Carefree
(Inst Break)
It happens every now and then
I wish we were there again
But I know it's never gonna be
Even though I'm growin' up
I just can't seem to get enough
I'm givin' my kids what Daddy gave to me
'Cause they're
Carefree
Carefree
